Rural Calligraphy





A man-made road passes curves of earth, ribboned by yellow.

Cracks patched with oil show squiggles and spell mysteries.

They mimic patterns on a hill.


Brushstrokes in herons and a heart appear.
Distance drums and songs of Chumash Indians rise on the wind.
