Harriette's Hatchlings

Two hatchings fit on a quarter. They weigh a third of a dime.

Feathers do not grow all over the body. They only  sprout from well-defined feather tracts.

They hatch with their eyes closed.

Hatchlings spend about three weeks in the nest. The female hummingbird feeds them regurgitated insects in a slurry mix of the nectar she eats.

Their down will come in after six days.

After they begin to fly, they will periodically visit the nest for two weeks until they become independent.
